In dieser Veranstaltung auf der Agenda: Cherson. / With a view to the reconstruction of the country, it is also worthwhile to take a closer look at the individual cities and regions. Our focus in this event: Kherson.

Cherson liegt im Süden der Ukraine am Fluss Dnipro und ist ein bedeutender Verkehrs-, Wasser- und Wirtschaftsknotenpunkt mit großen Agrarflächen und Naturschutzgebieten. Die Oblast und ihre Hauptstadt rückten durch die Zerstörung des Kachowka-Staudamms im Juni 2023 in den Fokus: Der Damm am Dnipro wurde teilweise gesprengt. Die Wassermassen überfluteten große Teile der Oblast und zerstörten wichtige Infrastruktur, Landwirtschaft und Siedlungen.

Um gezielt auf die lokale Situation sowie auf Ihre konkreten Angebote und Bedarfe eingehen zu können, ist die Veranstaltung in drei Teile gegliedert: Zunächst geben eine Journalistin aus Cherson sowie Vertreter*innen kommunaler und regionaler Partnerschaften aus Bonn und Kiel und der Zivilgesellschaft einen Einblick in die aktuelle Lage. Im zweiten Teil haben Sie die Möglichkeit, sich und ihre Arbeit vorzustellen. Anschließend vertiefen wir die Themen in kleineren Breakout-Gruppen.

Darüber hinaus laden wir Sie herzlich ein, uns vorab Präsentationen zu Ihren Organisationen und/oder Projekten zuzusenden. Diese stellen wir im Anschluss an die Veranstaltung allen Teilnehmenden zur Verfügung.

Die Veranstaltung findet auf Englisch statt und wird aufgezeichnet. Sie können sich hier bis zum 21. Januar 2026 anmelden. Moderieren wird die Veranstaltung Julia Chenusha (DUWir gGmbH).

Cities and regions in focus: Kherson

Our event series „Cities and Regions in Focus“ brings together everyone who is already working on projects in the respective cities and regions, or who is interested in becoming active there in the future. On 28 January 2026, the focus will be on Kherson.

Kherson is located in the south of Ukraine on the Dnipro River and is an important transport, water, and economic hub with extensive agricultural land and nature reserves. The oblast and its capital came into international focus after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in June 2023: the dam on the Dnipro was partially blown up, and the resulting floods inundated large parts of the region, destroying critical infrastructure, agriculture, and settlements.

In order to address the local situation as well as your concrete offers and needs in a targeted way, the event will be structured in three parts: first, a journalist from Kherson, together with representatives of municipal and regional partnerships from Bonn and Kiel and civil society, will provide insights into the current situation. In the second part, other individuals and organisations that are active in Kherson will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their work. This will be followed by smaller breakout groups in which the topics will be explored in more depth.

In addition, we warmly invite you to send us presentations about your organisations and/or projects in advance. We will make these available to all participants after the event.
